A Ray Shield was a type of energy shield which was commonly used on starships and other military bases and vehicles. Unlike particle shields, which repel solid objects, ray shields absorbed energy bolts. This made them ideal devices to protect starships from radiation near stars or other interstellar phenomenon as well as enemy fire.
